This is a photo taken by Japanese Photographer Hiroji Kubota of a group of protesters in Washington, DC during the early 1960s. Kubota was a student of politics at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. He met some photographers during his last year at the university, going on to become a freelance photographer and photojournalist. Some of his other work includes documentation of the 1968 presidential election, protest action throughout the '60s, '70s, and '80s, and photography from the inside of a North Korean schoolhouse during the 1980s. The angle, composition, and contrast in this photo are factors that inspire Scoggins to do better work.

To the right is a photo taken by British Photographer Brian Griffin. He studied photography at Manchester College of Art and Design, and he received the accolade of "Photographer of the Decade" for the 1980s from The Guardian. Scoggins is particularly inspired by this picture's contrasting colors and composition.
